Our country, Pakistan, is ranked amongst the most polluted countries in the world. Why?

The reason is that we do not care about our environment. There are many types of pollutions, but the most annoying is land pollution and air pollution.

So, first of all, we would talk about land pollution, the garbage we throw. We, the people of Pakistan, and the authorities here do not really care about the environment. People throw garbage in public places without knowing the consequences it will lead to. This all leads to a greater impact on our environment. Our environment gets dirty because of this. W go to a public place, we eat a packet of LAYS, and then we do not bother to throw the empty wrapper in the nearby dustbin, instead, we throw it away here and there, littering the beautiful land.

In college, every day, the sweepers used to clean the campus. The ground used to look beautiful when I used to see it in the morning, but soon after the break time, the school ground depicted a scene of some garbage dump, when the so-called educated people get free from having lunch, though there are dustbins at every corner of the campus, still, they do not care, that’s the tragedy of our nation. In a nation where the so-called educated people throw away garbage like that, how can you expect the other people to keep the country clean?

The same class, the so-called educated people, when they go to some European country such as the UK, they throw garbage in the dustbins, because they know, that the people don’t like that, but what is the problem with the country, they belong to? Why don’t they follow the same rules in their country? This is totally unacceptable in any case because Pakistan is our country, it’s our home, and we have to keep it clean.

We need to pay attention to this issue, as this is leading to pollution in Pakistan, and then we complain that Pakistan is amongst the most polluted countries in the world. Has anyone thought of why the countries which have less pollution have less pollution? Are they in some other parallel universe? No, those countries are also on this Earth, and the people living there have kept their countries clean, why can’t we make OUR country clean? We really need to pay attention to this, or else, it will have very bad consequences on our country’s environment, and if the country’s environment is not secure, then nothing will be secure, so we better fulfil our responsibilities as a responsible citizens of Pakistan, by keeping it clean and green. Here, in Pakistan, the majority of people are Muslims, and our religion Islam has paid emphasis on keeping our environment and ourselves clean. The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) has said, “Cleanliness is half of faith”. This one saying of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) summarizes the whole issue and exposes us as a nation, that we don’t even follow such a small Hadith of the Prophet (p.b.u.h), and we claim to be “Good Muslims”. We need to revisit that mindset and keep our country and environment clean.

Secondly, I will talk about air pollution, which is also a serious issue here in Pakistan, and we have seen in recent years, that, Lahore, one of the major cities of Pakistan, gets affected by smog in winters, which is a serious hazard to the health of people, making the diseases such as asthma, very common amongst people. This really needs to be controlled. The main reason for this pollution is the smoke from factories, and putting fire on garbage, etc, which releases sulfur and other poisonous gases in the air, hence polluting it. We can tackle that by going towards green solutions, by using methods which are environment friendly, and the government giving initiatives for that, we can surely beat this issue. We should use environmentally friendly fuel. We should also turn towards electric cars, which are now becoming a trend in the near future. Finally, most importantly, we should plant more and more trees, because trees make the environment clean and green, as it gives out oxygen, while photosynthesis, hence making the air quality clean. In this regard, I would appreciate the current Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative for Clean and Green Pakistan and the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami. We should support our government in this initiative and make our environment clean.

Let’s take a pledge today, that we will keep our areas clean, green, healthy and beautiful, hence making our country clean, green, beautiful and healthy. PAKISTAN PAINDABAD
